The Old Building

The Old Place is one of Waterloo's best known beach front landmarks known locally as "the Old Toilets at the bottom of South Road". Originally built in 1932, the art deco building served the general public for 60 years as a beach front public convenience until being decommissioned in the early 1990s. For twenty five years the building was left to fall into a state of disrepair. When you look at the mess the old place was in you can begin to appreciate the level of vision it took for the new owner to envisage what has eventually become the Waterloo Place Café and Gallery.
